British actor Joseph Morgan is currently in talks to portray the often discussed but never seen legendary vampire Klaus in the hit CW series ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ TVline.com is reporting. The news comes after producers searched for months and screened more than 100 actors around the world to portray the Original.

While fans of the series have suggested several bigger-name actors for the role, including Henry Cavill, Jason Dohring and Gale Harold, Julie Plec and her fellow producers said they were more likely to cast a relative unknown in the role. “This idea that there might be somebody out there that no one’s really familiar with yet that can be a new fresh face that we can exploit…in all the good ways…(is exciting),” Plec told Entertainment Weekly.

Morgan is primarily known to British audiences for appearing in the UK television series ‘Hex’ and the BBC2 mini-series ‘The Line of Beauty.’ But to American audiences, he’s known for appearing in ‘Alexander’ and ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.’
