According to GeekTyrant, rumors are floating around that comedian Robin Williams will play Dr. Hugo Strange in “The Dark Knight Rises”.

The rumors have started based on a tweet made by BATMAN-ON-FILM‘s Jett, stating, “RW as Strange? Hmm…” According to GeekTyrant, Batman-News released a response about the tweet saying that Jett has been on point in the past about “The Dark Knight Rises” news; Jett has made many posts on Bane, and as it turns out, Bane is going to be in the film, played by Tom Hardy.

This is not the first time Hugo Strange has been mentioned in connection to “The Dark Knight Rises”–according to Batman-News, there was talk of Hugo Strange appearing in the film, although as to who would play him was (and, for all intents and purposes) still in the air.

If Robin Williams does secure the role of Hugo Strange, could we get another crazy-awesome performance ala Heath Ledger? Keep in mind, before passing judgment, remember that scores of people were railing against the news of Ledger as the Joker until they actually saw him play the character in the film. Williams has had low-key performances in the past, so there’s the possibility that the role of Hugo Strange could be his resurgence role.

“The Dark Knight Rises” will be out July 20, 2012.

  1. I have been screaming to cast Williams as Hugo Strange for months now. Either him or Viggo Mortensen…..but Robin has talked about wanting to be in a Batman film for quite sometime now and he would love to work with Nolan again.
The time may finally be now for Williams to be in a Batman film. Robin Williams has done serious, dark, twisted, demented characters before in One Hour Photo, Insomnia and Death to Smoochie.
