Entertainment Weekly and MTV Movies Blog is reporting that Tom Cruise has secured the role of aging rock star Stacee Jaxx in the movie adaptation of the highly-successful, Tony-nominated Broadway show, “Rock of Ages.”Cruise’s involvement with the film dates back to October, when he was first being courted with the role.

Cruise’s character, played by Mitchell Jarvis in the Broadway show and MiG Ayessa in the U.S. tour show, sings Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive”. He also has singing parts in other ensemble songs such as “I Wanna Know What Love Is”. His character is also an egotistical womanizer, so it’s fitting that in the Broadway show he’d be on the receiving end of a lap dance as well as some fisticuffs, befitting any proper rocker.

There’s also a rumor circling around that Anne Hathaway may play the role of the journalist determined to destroy Jaxx’s career, only to end up falling in love with him, but of course, none of this is certain, and it certainly depends on her filming schedule, which is affected due to her role as Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises”.

The film adaptation is expected to be directed by Adam Shankman, the director and choreographer behind films such as “Hairspray”. He also choregraphed musical dance scenes in films like “Casper”, “George of the Jungle”, “Blast From the Past”, “Catch Me if You Can”, “The Wedding Plan”, and many more.

  1. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Stacee is sexy and blonde and eighties-tastic… doesn't anyone else remember interview with the vampire and how freaking weird Tom Cruise looks as a blonde… oh and how he can't act since the turn of the millenium…. thanks for ruining a musical I loved

  2. Ugh, there is no way Tom Cruise is going to sing and dance, or be a loveable jerk, better than the tour Stacee, MiG Ayesa…they are on the way to ruining a great show by stuffing it up with A-listers just to try and make a big noise.

  3. I have seen clips of Tom Cruise singing in other movies and he doesn't have the musical chops for this role. I have seen the tour Rock of Ages several times and think MiG Ayesa would be far superior in this role to Tom Cruise. I think loading this film up with such big names stars will ruin this film. I have seen some of the other names floating around for the other roles and think most are a big mistake. I was looking forward to the film-not so much now

  4. I cannot understand why the creators of such a fantastic show want to change the essence (and formula) of what this FUN show is about! Big name does not mean big talent! Cruise will massacre the roll – no amount of coaching will 'fix' his singing or he'd have done it by now! MiG Ayesa IS Stacee Jaxx – every night! He has the look, the attitude, the acting and dancing experience AND the chops to belt out the songs that are supposed to make Stacee Jaxx the BEST rocker in the WORLD I am so disappointed that the movie is going with big names instead of big talent! If dollars is bottom line consider that T Hanks put out a sleeper film with little knowns in 'That Thing You Do' and was very successful! Want a cult film that will be seen by old (and new fans) over and over – stick to the script and stick to the talent who have already won over the hearts of many!!!
