Legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor died on March 23 from congestive heart failure, USAtoday.com is reporting. Taylor, who had been hospitalized at L.A.’s Cedars Sinai Hospital for the past two months, was 79. She went public with her heart failure diagnosis in November 2004.
Taylor tweeted in October 2009 that she was having a new procedure done to repair her heart. The procedure involved using a clip device to repair her valve, so that she could avoid open heart surgery. Her heart failure was agitated by several other ailments, including spinal fractures and scoliosis. She was confined to a wheelchair in recent months due to the constant pain she endured from the spinal disease.
The news comes after Taylor was put on life support in the summer of 2008. Her reps issued a statement, saying she was fine. “Her hospital visit was precautionary. She will be returning home shortly,” they added.
Some of Taylor’s most honored roles were her Academy Award-nominated parts in ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ and ‘Suddenly Last Summer.’ She won the Best Actress Oscars for her roles in ‘Butterfield 8′ and ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe.’ Her last film appearance was in 2001′s ‘These Old Broads.’
Taylor also made headlines for her eight marriages to seven husband. Her first marriage was to hotel heir Conrad Hilton, Jr., in 1950. She then married actor Richard Burton in 1964, and divorced him ten years later. They remarried in 1975, but the marriage didn’t last long, as she wed Virginia Senator John Warner in 1976. Taylor’s last marriage was to Larry Fortensky in 1991 at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch. They divorced five years later.
