Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Title: RuneScape: Return to Canifis Author: T.S. Church Vampires, werewolves and wizards have certainly cast a spell on the living in recent years, as evident in the number of books, movies and television shows focusing on the undead that have topped the charts. when Titan Books first announced it was releasing the novel RuneScape: Return to Canifis, which is based on one of the most played and popular Java-based massively multi-player online role-playing games (MMORPG) in the world, it seemed like the publishing company was on the track to launching another popular vampire franchise. However, author T.S. Church ultimately alienated people unfamiliar with the RuneScape game with his finished work,…

Trailer for Dylan Dog: Dead of Night released

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

The trailer for the film adaptation of “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night” has been released on YouTube. The trailer seems to have the same zany, slightly indie, fun style that “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” has, without all of the special effects, of course. (It’s worth mentioning that Brandon Routh seems to be getting serious comic-book cred: he also starred in “Scott Pilgrim” and, of course played Superman.) It’s also slightly macabre, so if you’re into that, this movie might be for you. The film stars Routh (“Superman Returns”, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”) as the title character, a private detective who specializes in the world of the undead. Dylan…

Super Movie Review

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Title: Super Directed By: James Gunn Starring: Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Nathan Fillion I’m all for bizarre and outlandish comedy. When Napoleon Dynamite hit back in 2004, I fell in love. The difference between that film and James Gunn’s Super? Whereas Napoleon Dynamite was innocent silliness, Super is insulting madness. Perhaps the films would be comparable had Napoleon’s Liger jumped off the page and mauled Pedro to death. Super stars Rainn Wilson as Frank, a lame loser who happened to get lucky in the romance department and marry Liv Tyler’s character, Sarah. Sure enough, Frank’s luck runs dry and Sarah’s drug addiction creeps back into the…

Cracks Movie Review

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Title: Cracks Directed By: Jordan Scott Starring: Eva Green, Juno Temple, Maria Valverde, Imogen Poots, Ellie Nunn, Adele McCann, Zoe Carroll, Clemmie Dugdale Filmmaking is certainly a collaborative effort and while that may be an asset in many ways, in some cases, it can also sink even the most beautiful and promising ship. Director Jordan Scott deservedly follows in the footsteps of her father, Ridley, while Juno Temple and Eva Green deliver unforgettably striking performances. If only it weren’t for that damn script. At an all-girls British boarding school, Di (Temple) and the other members of Miss G’s (Green) diving team sit at the top of the social ladder. The…
