According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Gangster Squad” screenwriter Will Beal is set to start writing the script to the WB remake of “Logan’s Run”. It would appear that Beal is the next hot writer on the scene, seeing how “Gangster Squad” just got the greenlight, also by Warner Brothers.

The “Logan’s Run” project has been in the infamous “Development Hell” for the longest, but now with actor Ryan Gosling set to star and Nicolas Winding Refn to direct, the film is now on the right path towards production.

Like I said, Beal, a former L.A. cop, is currently a hot commodity in terms of screenwriting talent, not only has his “Gangster Squad” gotten the go-ahead, but, according to the article, has also been asked to do the script of a “Lethal Weapon” reboot.

The remake is, of course, based on the 1976 film starring Michael York, Farrah Fawcett and Jenny Agutter. Both films are based on the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan, in which Logan, a member of the execution organization called the Sandmen, becomes sympathetic to the plight of Runners, people who are who are attempting to escape their fate of being killed after reaching a certain age. Due to his changing affiliations, Logan has to go on the run.
