Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock and his production company Warrior Poets have bought the naming rights to Altoona, Pennsylvania to help support his new documentary, ‘POM Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.’ The City of Altoona City Council unanimously voted to allow Spurlock to rename the city POM Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, PA. The name change will go into effect on April 27 for 60 days.

To celebrate the name change, Spurlock will premiere ‘POM Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold on April 27 at the Jaffa Shrine on Broad Avenue in the city formerly known as Altoona. The name change will also be commemorated during a proclamation ceremony at City Hall at 1pm.

Spurlock said he choose Altoona because after searching the country, he felt it’s “a shining example of struggling cities all across America.” He will designate the money the city receives from the name change to the City of Altoona Police Department.

Altoona Mayor Bill Schirf said the city “has a rich history and a great story to tell. (Morgan) is giving us a platform to show the world the hidden treasure found in the Altoona community.”
