Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr, who play Jenny and Vanessa, respectively, on ‘Gossip Girl,’ will not be returning as series regulars for the fifth season, TVLine is reporting. However, both actresses have been invited back by the CW to return as guest stars next year.

The core five regulars on the hit teen drama series, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford, will all return full-time in the fall. To make up for Momsen and Szohr’s absence, Kaylee DeFer, who plays Charlie, the cousin to Lively’s Serena, has been promoted from a guest star to a series regular.

The news of Momsen and Szohr’s departures come after the two only made several appearances during the current fourth season. Jenny has been living with her mother in Hudson. Vanessa has been given less screen time as a result of her falling out with her best friend, Badgley’s Dan, and will reportedly study abroad during the fifth season. Momsen is currently focusing on her pop-rock band The Pretty Reckless, while Szohr has several movies awaiting release for later this year.
