Director Gary Ross, producer Nina Jacobson and her company Color Force, the team behind the upcoming film “The Hunger Games”, have put their talents together again to pitch a film about Cyrano de Bergerac, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the site, the pitch, which was originally thought of by Ross and written by John Whittington, is set up at New Regency. The film’s pitch is supposed to be an updated, modern-age retelling of the classic story about a man who is in love with a woman but has to woo her through a less capable, but far more handsome man. The twist the pitch gives is that the wooing will involve today’s social media services.

The pitch is based on the 1897 play “Cyrano de Bergerac” written by Edmond Rostand. The play focuses on real-life French dramatist and duelist Hercule-Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac and his love for Roxanne, whom he woos through the help of his friend, Christian de Neuvillette, a very handsome, but not so articulate person.

Along with Color Force, Ross’ producing partner Alison Thomas will also produce the film.

What do you think about a modern-day telling of the classic play? Make sure to give your opinions in the comments below.

  1. Why bother? I think someone beat them to it – a film called Roxanne starring this funny guy named Steve Martin. Oh, and it was quite good too.
