Arnold Schwarzenegger has publicly admitted that he fathered an illegitimate child over a decade ago with a former member of his household staff, EOnline is reporting. He added that he didn’t tell his estranged wife, Maria Shriver, until he left the governor’s office earlier this year.
In statement he released on May 17, Schwarzenegger not only admitted to fathering the child, but also said he understands and deserves “the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family.” He also said there aren’t any excuses for his actions, and “I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused.” The actor added that he has apologized to Shriver, who he’s been married to for 25 years, as well as his four children with her. The former broadcast journalist has yet to release a statement or publicly comment on her husband’s admission.
The identity of the woman Schwarzenegger had the affair with has not been release. But she reportedly worked for the family for 20 years before she retired in January. The former California governor has asked for privacy from the media, as he feels his family doesn’t deserve attention and criticism.
