In a follow up to the Shockya.com celebrity Twitter series, I present the following (get it?). As one of the newest additions to the Shockya.com team, I pride myself on the social networking platform, Twitter. I take it seriously and look at it as an extension of my professional self. That being said, it’s probably the number one source for news, interaction and opinion. There is nothing out there now that can address your opinion or insight, with great speed and context like Twitter. It’s simply amazing!
I like to keep the people I follow to a low number, in comparison to the people that follow me. So the people I follow have to make it worth my while. No talking about what you’re eating for breakfast in my social stream; that’s what Facebook is for. So the celebrities I follow, I have to take seriously, know that they are physically on the other side of their tweets, posting good, funny and insightful content.
Here is a look at my top five celebrity Twitter follows (in alphabetical order):
1. Michael Ian Black – @MichaelIanBlack
I also follow his writing partner and collaborator, Michael Showalter (@mshowalter), as well but I find Michael Ian Black’s feed to be more rewarding. If he’s not randomly posting about hanging out (or threatening to kill) his kids, or promoting himself as the official spokesman for Taco Bell, then it’s not worth while for me. He’s really good about creating memes and promoting a great podcast, “Mike and Tom Eat Snacks”.
2. Roger Ebert – @EbertChicago
Being a film critic, I look up to a lot of other critics and Roger Ebert is the best in the industry. Although I don’t agree with his viewpoint, most of the time, I respect it and often find myself clicking his links to older reviews. I find that he’s one of the old guard that gets the Internet and uses it as it’s meant to be used, as a tool. He embraces new technology and that counts for a lot with me.
3. Donald Glover – @DonaldGlover
I am a huge fan of “Community” and his older work with Derrick Comedy. I like how personal he gets on Twitter by posting candid pics of himself hanging out with friends. I like how he promotes himself and his new work as the artist, Childish Gambino. Plus his old Twitter handle was @DonGlover (get it?).
4. Sasha Grey – @SashaGrey
Yes, the porn star Sasha Grey! Before I wrote for Shockya.com, I co-founded the movie blog, CriterionCast.com. Apparently Sasha Grey is a huge fan of the Criterion Collection and started following us. She would re-tweet our work and I tried my hardest to get her to make a guest appearance on the podcast but alas that did not happen. But since then, I enjoy her tweets and whereabouts. It’s always going to be exciting and smart. Worth following!
5. Natalie Morales – @NatalieMorales
Natalie Morales is an actor from Los Angeles. She worked on “Parks and Recreation” as Tom Haverford’s girlfriend. She’s mostly the “best friend” in features and TV shows. She’s a great talent, both as an actor and a writer. She’ll be featured on the new TV series “Are you there, Vodka? It’s me, Chelsea” this fall on ABC. I’m not a fan of Chelsea Handler but I’m a huge fan of Natalie Morales, and so should you.
