In odd movie news, The Huffington Post is reporting that former pastor Ted Haggard will play a role in an indie Christian sex comedy. The film, titled “The Waiting Game”, is being developed by former Colorado Springs stand-up comedians-turned-filmmakers Emilio Martinez and Rich Praytor. The script has already been written and a trailer has already been made, but The Gazette
According to 'The Gazette' Martinez and Praytor were inspired by Judd Apatow films. "I love all of the Judd Apatow movies...they're all great," Praytor said. "So we wanted to take something like that into the Christian arena." Martinez said, "They're [The Christian audience] just starving for anything comedy."
In the trailer, Haggard is eavesdropping on a conversation between two men in a coffee shop. "I'm so frustrated. You know, I'm just going to do what I want to do anyway, it's not like it's going to wind up on the front page of the newspaper." Haggard then leans over and said, "Hey, buddy, I wouldn't do that if I were you."
Since his public downfall and resignation from the New Life church in Colorado Springs, Haggard has done a reassessment of his life and has actually come out as very understanding about his own sexual situation as well as others' difficulty with coming out and accepting themselves. "Here's where I am on this issue," Haggard said in an interview for GQ Magazine, “I think that probably, if I were 21 in this society, I would identify myself as a bisexual.”
