Lali Puna Makes Cooking Intriguing With Their Latest Video

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

We can’t call ourselves chefs. We tend to stay away from the domesticated ways of a kitchen, but lately we find our growling stomachs lured towards the stove and away from the take out menu book. Who can we credit for this culinary revolution? Lali Puna’s video for the single, “Move On,” makes cooking look like another means for us to channel our creativity. The Munich-based quartet’s single, “Move On,” is off their latest LP, Our Inventions, which dropped April 9th, 2010 via Morr Music. The music video release coincides with a brand new 7-inch on Morr Music, which features “Move On” as well as the previously unreleased tune, “See…

Oprah's Last Show: How It Went Down

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Oprah Winfrey’s final show aired today, and it was bittersweet for me, even though Oprah herself said she felt it “was all sweet, no bitter.” The show was a reflection on her 25 seasons, including revisiting some of her earlier, more salacious episodes as well as episodes that shed light on situations such as sexual and physical abuse, low self-esteem, and addictions. She also gave her final live audience advice about life, such as remembering that each person is worthy of happiness. Some of the reactions about the show range from bland (“This episode was like that part of the evening in which nothing particularly interesting is going on but…

Beyonce Controversy: Her 'Inspiration' for her Billboard Awards Performance

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

There’s no question that Beyonce’s performance of “Run the World (Girls)” at Saturday’s Billboard Awards was one of the highlights, but now there’s a controversy as to how she came up with the performance. The Huffington Post has an article on the controversy, citing that much of Beyonce’s performance is modeled after Lorella Cuccarini’s performance in 2010. “My makeup artist showed me the performance of Lorella Cuccarini a year ago, and it inspired me so much,” Beyonce said to AOL Music. “I then met the talented people who worked on it. The technology and concept were so genius. Thank [G]od for YouTube or I would have never been exposed to…

For The Fallen Dreams Back Burner

Album Review: Lift Your Heavy Metal Spirits With For The Fallen Dreams

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

As beginning music fans, we were drawn to young teen music, such as groups like the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Britney Spears. Many years later, with our music knowledge building up on these foundations, we realize our musical tastes have broadened for the better. We can call ourselves fans of rock, pop, jazz, classical, blues, country and recently heavy metal. Metal music took the longest to diffuse through our not so porous music boundaries. Yes, we have mentioned many genres we liked, but that doesn’t mean each of them got through without thorough contemplation. We must admit that we didn’t always understand heavy metal music; we just didn’t see…

Lesley Manville in Another Year

Interview: Lesley Manville Talks Another Year

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Few performances in 2010 were as difficult to watch as Lesley Manville’s turn in Mike Leigh’s “Another Year”. A Razzie nominee, you ask? No, far from it. Tabbed by various critics’ groups for their Best Supporting Actress award, and a BAFTA nominee to boot, Manville turned so heads and wrinkled so many brows in wincing, knowing exasperation because of just how skillfully she embodied the suffocating neediness and loneliness of Mary, an aging British singleton who serves as a boozy, chatty leech on the lives of her best friends, Tom and Gerri (Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen), and their adult son. In advance of the movie’s Blu-ray/DVD combo pack release…

Bryan Singer On Why Superman Returns Didn't Work

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Some think that “Superman Returns” did work, but for those who didn’t particularly like the Bryan Singer version of the story about the Man of Steel, he’s here to tell you why you didn’t. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision posted snippets of an interview Comic Book Movie’s VoicesofKrypton did with Bryan Singer about the issues of the film. When asked about how he internalized the overall response people had to the film, Singer said, “It’s hard for me to assess it. My gut response is, ‘I didn’t do THAT bad.’” But he goes on to explain some possible causes for the monetary failure. “I think that ‘Superman Returns’ was a…
