Yesterday, Shockya reported on the recent developments in the story surrounding Tracy Morgan’s recent string of potentially hurtful language that was said at his comedy show in Nashville. Today, Marlon Wayans, also a comedian, gave his opinions on the situation, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
In the article, Wayans said that Morgan should have thought more about the implications of what he was saying. “He has a right to say what he says,” he said, “[b]ut he has to be a little more responsible and write a little bit and think a little more before he does it next time.”
Wayans, who acted with Morgan in the comedy film “Little Man”, said that he’s fine with comedians working out material in front of an audience. “That’s why I don’t like people having cameras in the comedy clubs,” he said. “Because you’re just throwing thoughts out there, and that’s the creative process. You’re going to offend some people as you’re finding the lines. Now, he didn’t find a line, he found a cliff. But unfortunately, that happens.”
He also said that he’s not really that angry at Michael Richards, who had a racist diatribe in his comedy act, because he respects the comedian’s right to freedom of speech. But, he said, Morgan should work his material out before performing it live. “I don’t think [Morgan]‘s a homophobe. I’ve worked with him. Tracy’s a cool dude. I think he just says dumb stuff”.
Currently, Morgan has partnered with GLAAD on anti-bullying PSAs and will apologize to those offended by his act in person when he flies back to Nashville in the coming days.
