The cast of the National Geographic channel’s reality show ‘Shark Men’ is taking a break from hunting for sharks to instead track the giant Humboldt squid on its next episode, ‘The Cannibal.’ Airing on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 10 pm ET/PT, the episode will feature the Shark Men searching the Sea of Cortez, which separates the Baja California peninsula from the Mexican mainland, by spotter plan and boat. After days of only spotting a juvenile Humboldt, Captain Brett catches a fully mature squid.

Humboldt are a large, predatory squid who live in the Humboldt Current in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. They are most often found between 660 to 2,300 feet below sea level, between Tierra del Fuego and California, although they have been recently spotted near Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. The Carnivorous marine invertebrate can swim up to 15 mph.

‘Shark Men’ primarily follows the cast, which is comprised of anglers and scientists, as they actively hunt sharks. The shark men want to discover the secrets behind the fish’s migratory patterns, breeding and birthing sites.
