After New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed the marriage equality bill on June 24, 2011, making The Empire State the sixth American state to legalize gay marriage, celebrities tweeted their support, US Magazine is reporting. Neil Patrick Harris tweeted “IT PASSED! Marriage equality in New York! Yes! Progress! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this! A historic night!”
The tweet came after the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor, who has two children with his partner David Burtka, tweeted his case to the state senate earlier in the day. “I’d sure love to get married. Please, New York Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today.”
Lady Gaga also tweeted her support for the legalization, saying “I can’t stop crying…The revolution is ours to fight for love, justice and equality.”
