The Hedgehog

The Hedgehog Movie Review

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Title: The Hedgehog (Le Herisson) Directed By: Mona Achache Written By: Mona Achache, from Muriel Barbery’s novel “The Elegance of the Hedgehog” Cast: Josiane Balasko, Garance Le Guillermic, Togo Igawa, Anne Brochet, Ariane Ascaride Screened at: Review 2, NYC, 6/28/11 Opens: August 19, 2011 Things are seldom what they seem. An eleven-year-old girl, one would figure, would be watching Disney cartoons, checking out her email on a BlackBerry, and giggling with friends over boys in her class. A janitor who mops the floors of a building but probably would not know how to fix a leaky sink would hardly be expected to curl up with Tolstoy. Yet both of these…

Ironclad Spills Blood And Guts On YouTube

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

How about a little blood and guts before bed? A montage of gruesome battle scenes from the upcoming film Ironclad popped up on YouTube and it’s brimming with grisly sword battles, dismembered limbs and impalements all drenched in the brightest red blood. When you’re finished soaking up this gory goodness, be sure to check out the film’s trailer as it shows that Ironclad is much more than a series of wicked fight scenes. The year is 1215 and King John (Paul Giamatti) is furious for having been forced to sign the Magna Carta. To retaliate, he assembles an army and moves to take London. But first, he must conquer Rochester…

Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson on American Idol Season 11

Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler Officially Set As Judges For American Idol Season 11

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

It’s official! According to Entertainment Weekly, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler have been signed back on as judges for “American Idol”. This will make the show’s 11th season, as well as Jackson’s 11th season as a judge on the show. The only wild card this time around is Jennifer Lopez, who is reportedly “on the fence” due to her new “American Idol”-esque project “Q’Viva.” Time for my personal opinion: After sitting through this season of “American Idol,” I would hope beyond hope that the two judges–three, if Lopez returns–stop reusing the same words and phrases like “beautiful,” “beyond critique”, and the now-infamous, “In it to win it.” Also, in the…

FilmFan Recap: Transformers 3 A Good Summer Action Flick, Larry Crowne A Lighthearted Romp

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

In this week’s “FilmFan,” host Sami Jarroush breaks down “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “Larry Crowne” from Tom Hanks. The first film analyzed is “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” starring Shia LeBeouf. Jarroush said that while it’s understandable for people to be concerned about spending their hard-earned money on another “Transformers” film after the train wreck (or Autobot wreck) of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Dark of the Moon” is a great summer film for those wanting to see explosions, fighting mechs, and excitement–everything you want out of a summer film. Also, director Michael Bay has implored theaters to turn up the bulbs in the 3D movie projectors in…

Interview: Terri's John C. Reilly And Jacob Wysocki

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

If only John C. Reilly were my high school guidance counselor. Well, I don’t know how far I would have gotten in life, but at least I would have had a daily supply of malt balls. In Terri, Reilly stars as Mr. Fitzgerald, the school vice principal who takes Terri (Jacob Wysocki) under his wing. Terri’s got no friends and spends his free time killing mice in his attic, eating beans on toast and taking care of his ailing uncle. When Terri’s sent to Mr. Fitzgerald’s office for his tardiness, rather than receive a punishment, Terri finally makes a friend, Mr. Fitzgerald himself. While Mr. Fitzgerald’s intentions are noble, he’s…

Call of Duty Black Ops Annihilation

Call of Duty Black Ops Annihilation DLC First Impression

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

The Annihilation DLC hit Xbox Live early on June 28. Being a hardcore gamer, I stayed up till the map pack was released. The first thing that I did was play the new zombies map Shangri-La. When I started I found myself in a completely new environment the remains of a once glorious and ancient civilization. I stumbled upon motion-sensitive traps, underground tunnels, a run-down village. Shangri-La was constantly changing my strategies one second I would be running from a massive wave of zombies and then a trap would stop me in tracks or I would get an instant kill and the a monkey would come out of nowhere and…

Raw Faith

Raw Faith Movie Review

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Title: Raw Faith Director: Peter Wiedensmith Featuring: Marilyn Sewell Religious faith is often difficult to discuss openly, let alone capture and sensitively address in something like film, owing not only to the diversity of religious affiliations and denominations, but to the problems many people have with what they view as either hypocrisy or cloying piety when it comes to how people of faith interact with those of opposite beliefs, or no particular religious convictions at all. Raw Faith, a stirring new documentary from director Peter Wiedensmith, is as holistic a portrait of religious devotion and engagement as exists in recent memory, and an achingly, profoundly moving snapshot of how the human experience is…
