Google is celebrating the Fourth of July with a new American-themed Google Doodle. On the search engine’s home page, the official Google logo is written in red, white and blue. The doodle also features a compressed map of the U.S., spanning from San Francisco on the west coast to New York on the east coast.

The doodle also features a highway that divides the Google logo down the middle, and separates the east from the west. The sun shines over the west coast, while night has fallen over the east coast. Fireworks also shine over the Statue of Liberty. A rainbow joins the two coasts, and passes over such animated pictures as the Chicago’s Sear Tower, a suburban home and a family farm. The doodle also features the Golden Gate bridge and an eagle.

When the doodle is clicked, history about the Fourth of July appears on Google’s search page. The search engine also offers suggestions for fun family activities.

This year’s doodle is causing buzz on the internet, as Google users feel it’s much simpler than last year’s July 4th doodle, which was interactive. Last year’s doodle featured not only an American flag, but also such American household items as a football, grill, iron and bird cage. A firework went off at the end, releasing falling red, white and blue stars.
