That’s that for Friday at San Diego Comic Con and I’m back at home base, well, the hotel. Today was a particularly busy one as I got a taste of exactly how long those lines for Hall H and Ballroom 20 can get. I thought I was jumping the gun by showing up three hours early for the 11:15am panel for The Walking Dead, but apparently about 10,000 people had the exact same idea, as the line stretched from the convention hall all the way down to the bay. Lucky for me, I was able to work some press related magic and get a seat, but for those other 10,000 people, they supposedly didn’t have a shot of getting in for another three panels.
Anyway, not only did I catch all of The Walking Dead, but a bit of the Torchwood: Miracle Day panel, too. Sure, I don’t watch Torchwood and had little to no clue of what the cast was talking about, but everyone seemed to be having a blast, especially the show’s stars, John Barrowman and Eve Myles. After that one wrapped Frank Darabont and the gang took the stage on behalf of The Walking Dead. The panel was packed with interesting information, but the highlight was definitely getting to see the season two trailer not once, but two times.
After that wrapped it was off to the convention center floor to snap some more photos. In addition to the usual activity, I caught both Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy signing posters for Warrior at the Lionsgate booth. And, just across the aisle, The Walking Dead display was packed as the entire cast showed up for a signing session. While I couldn’t get near any of the cast members as their stations were mobbed, I did catch Emma Bell, who played Amy in season one, hanging around the back of the booth and spoke to her a bit about Frozen and the Final Destination 5 footage I saw at the party the night before. She said she’s just psyched to be part of the Final Destination movie that’s going to bring the series back to its roots.
From there it was back to the Hilton Bayfront to have a quick chat with Spider-Man himself, Andrew Garfield, on the Amazing Spider-Man press line. Next up was a one-on-one interview with the director of Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Eli Craig, who told me all about his mission to restore the hillbillies’ good name. Then it was back to The Amazing Spider-Man to talk to the man behind the lens, director Marc Webb.
From superheroes to vampires, I then made my way over to the Fright Night press conference. Colin Farrell was only able to stay for about five minutes, but Anton Yelchin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Imogen Poots, the original Jerry Dandrige, Chris Sarandon, director Craig Gillespie and writer Marti Noxon had no problem handling it from there.
After a quick recharge it was off to AMC’s Dusk Til Con party where both Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Kellan Lutz were honored with some sort of movie fanatic award courtesy of the hosts. After a brief presentation the bash picked up big time, filling the location to the brim with all sorts of folks including producers, actors, public relations teams and, those like yours truly, movie news writers.
So, that’s that for my second full day out in San Diego. Sure, I’m exhausted, but oddly enough, it’s the kind of fatigue I actually thrive off of as I cannot wait to get up bright and early tomorrow morning to fill you all in on even more! What’s on the schedule? Right now it’s looking like The Darkest Hour presentation followed by some Vampire Diaries interviews. After that I’m hoping to get to the Immortals roundtables and then a screening of Griff the Invisible and I absolutely cannot wait. Good night for now; much more to come tomorrow.
