Paramount has released their creepy trailer of “Paranormal Activity 3,” which features “found video” supposedly from 1988 of two sisters who are the subjects of a haunting.

The trailer is below for your viewing pleasure. After viewing the trailer, give your opinions in the comments section below, particularly your views on whether you think this film will stand up to the other “Paranormal Activity” films.

The “Paranormal Activity” franchise is based on the “found footage” techniques of films like “The Blair Witch Project.” The first film became a sleeper hit due to word of mouth as well as a financial juggernaut–the film, which only cost $15,000 to make made $77,873 in its opening weekend and an overall gross of $107,917,283. The second film was similarly successful, albeit making a bit less–“Paranormal Activity 2” made $87,749,884 as its overall gross, still more than enough to warrant another sequel.

“Paranormal Activity 3” is currently in pre-production and is set for an October 21 release, just in time for this year’s Halloween festivities. Even though it’s easy to tell that the plot revolves around the girls, at the moment, no official synopsis has been released; perhaps the team behind the film is playing the details about this film close to the chest in order to keep anticipation high. If they are indeed purposefully withholding the synopsis, it’s a good strategy for a horror/mystery film. Also a neat strategy: this viral campaign.
