Snow Flower and the Secret Fan Movie Review

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Title: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan Director: Wayne Wang Starring: Bingbing Li, Gianna Jun After the first 30-45 minutes, one can easily see how “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” worked as an engrossing read. As for the 120 minute cinematic adaptation of Lisa See’s novel: A Gilbert Gottfried “ehhh not so much.” (Youtube it) This telling, that poorly attempts to run the original story set in 19th century China parallel with a modern-day narrative, fails to capture your attention. The script and the performances, while admirable, do absolutely nothing to gain the viewer’s emotional interest. So just to be clear, you will not give a rat’s ass how…

point blank

Point Blank Movie Review

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Title: Point Blank Writer-director: Fred Cavaye Starring: Gilles Lellouche, Roschdy Zem, Gerard Lanvin, Elena Anaya The title Point Blank is one of those perfectly generic and innocuous film monikers that indicate “thrills” without any cumbersome specificity whatsoever. One hears it and immediately envisions a dozen or more well-worn video and DVD coverboxes – with Steven Seagal, Jeff Speakman or, now, the latest WWE superstar attempting to transition into acting, clutching a handgun and mean-mugging the viewer, all underneath a font that conveys skirmish and exploit. This is one of the reasons that it’s a somewhat strange fit with this French import — an action thriller yes, but hardly a nuance-free, vengeful…

SmurfsGarg

The Smurfs Movie Review

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Title: The Smurfs Director: Raja Gosnell Starring: Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, Sofia Vergara, Jayma Mays (voice cast listed below) Thank you Hank Azaria for continuing to bring your A-game even if everything else around you is a Smurfing mess. His portrayal of the sinister wizard Gargamel is the life-force that will keep the adults involved. The only other aspect to keep the generation that grew up with “The Smurfs” attentive is to count how many subtle sexual innuendos are coming out of Smurfette’s mouth (voiced by Katy Perry); something the movie enjoys addressing every so often (or I was just that bored creating things to entertain myself). Other than…

Joe Pesci

Joe Pesci To Sue Fiore Films Over Role In Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father

Friday, July 29th, 2011

“Gott: In the Shadow of My Father” (originally named “Gotti: Three Generations”) seemed to be on a role after the debacle with Linsday Lohan’s role in the film. However, there’s another debacle, this time with Joe Pesci. This problem is so bad that he’s suing Fiore Films over his role in the film. According to CinemaBlend via Deadline, Pesci is suing the company about the film because they’ve changed the role he’s playing after he started physically preparing for the role. Originally, Pesci signed on to play Angelo Ruggiero, John Gotti, Sr.’s right hand. To play Ruggiero, Pesci was told to gain 30 pounds and was offered $3 million. Later,…
