Tucker and Dale vs. Evil Movie Review

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Title: Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil Studio: Magnet Releasing Directed By: Eli Craig, Morgan Jurgenson Written By: Eli Craig, Morgan Jurgenson Cast: Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden, Jesse Moss, Philip Granger Screened at: Review, NYC, 7/26/11 Opens: September 30, 2011. VOD on August 26, 2011 If “Tucker and Dale vs. Evil” is not the funniest take-off on slasher movies in decades, then I’d better get out more often—especially to films broadly considered of the horror genre. Unlike the “Scream” series, which simply plays homage to horror conventions by regularly winking at the audience, e.g. the black guy gets killed first, or the girl who answers the phone will die,…

In the case of “Sarah’s Key,” French police are seen arresting Jews, rounding them up and turning them over to the German transports. In fact, a large part of France known as Vichy was governed by Frenchmen, the excuse being that the French citizens are better off when some of their own kind are in power even if that means hobnobbing…

Ron Howard Passes on Directing The Lost Symbol

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Ron Howard won’t be directing the film adaptation of The Lost Symbol, the third book in Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series, Deadline is reporting. Howard only wants to produce the final film in the trilogy, instead of directing it, even though he helmed its two predecessors, 2006′s ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and 2009′s ‘Angels and Demons.’ Howard reportedly told Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton from Sony Pictures, which released the first two films in the series, that he doesn’t want to continually tell the same stories with the same character over and over. But the studio is saying Tom Hanks, who portrayed Langdon in both previous adaptations, will reprise his…

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

The trailer for the Hasbro game-movie “Battleship” has been released, and for the most part, the trailer makes you wonder why Universal even needed the game as a basis for the movie. The trailer (embedded below) shows the main characters–Taylor Kitsch as Alex Hopper, Liam Neeson and Admiral Shane, Alexander Skarsgard as Stone Hopper, Rihanna as Raikes, and Brooklyn Decker as Sam–in their establishing relationships and roles before the big threat of the film, a ship of unknown origins, threatens the navy ship most of our main characters are on. And, like all alien invasion films, the alien ship (or ships?) are also a threat to the safety of the…
