Hilary Duff was fired from the upcoming remake ‘The Story of Bonnie and Clyde’ soon after announcing her pregnancy last week, TMZ is reporting. The film’s director, Tonya Holly, said that because the former Disney star won’t be available to begin shooting until June 2012, she had to begin looking at other actresses to play bank robber Bonnie Parker.
Holly added that while she’s happy for Duff’s pregnancy and the actress loves the script, production can’t wait. “Due to our obligations with investors and international buyers, it is imperative that we stick to our current schedule…Unfortunately this happens all the time in the world of filmmaking.” Duff’s departure was reportedly amicable, but her reps have yet to publicly comment on the firing.
The news comes after Duff appeared on ‘Access Hollywood Live’ in May 2011 to insist the rumors that began circulating then that she had been fired were false. At the time, she also said that ‘The Jane Austen Book Club’s Kevin Zegers was also still slated to play Clyde Barrow in the film.
Now producers are also reportedly looking for a new actor to play Clyde, due to Zegers’ scheduling conflicts. Amanda Seyfried and James McAvoy are rumored to have been offered the title roles in the film.
