When you’ve got a book as popular as The Hunger Games, what better way to use the fame than by supporting National Literacy Month? In honor of the event, Lionsgate, Scholastic and Scribd are teaming up to bring the second chapter of the book to the world – for free!

The application is built right into The Hunger Games‘ Facebook page, displaying the text of the second chapter for all to read. The Scribd interface lets you scroll through the material, view it in full screen, download the document, enlarge or minimize the text size and, of course, share the app via Facebook or Twitter.

In addition to the web application, the trio of companies is also teaming up with DonorsChoose.org to hold a sweepstakes. Throughout September, if you read The Hunger Games in the Scribd application, you’ll automatically be entered in “Read a Chapter, Win a Library” and have a shot at snagging a whole classroom library of books for a public school.

Lionsgate Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen explained, “The Hunger Games is an incredibly powerful book – the experience of reading it is exciting enough to turn people of all ages onto books with a new fervor, so the National Literacy Month connection couldn’t be more fitting.”

Click here to check out the second chapter of the book for yourself and, if you’re feeling particularly eager to support a good cause via your love of The Hunger Games, check out this noble effort by Down With The Capitol’s Shylah to help the International Rescue Committee provide relief to those effected by the drought in Somalia Ethiopia and Kenya.
