Indiana Jones actor and Transformers star Shia LaBeouf now considers punk rocker Marilyn Manson his brother, adding that Manson’s “a real sweet dude.” After directing the Beautiful People singer’s latest music video, or short film if you will, for his song ‘Born Villain’, it appears the two have grown close.
“Marilyn Manson to me is an indelible figure,” LaBeouf told MTV News. “He’s a big deal to me, and in my childhood, I don’t know of a scarier figure in art. He, in my teenage years, was the scariest thing in the world, so part of me has always been intrigued.”
If you haven’t seen the video, it’s a collage of crap. LaBeouf has always been one of my favorite actors, but after watching six minutes and thirty seconds of violent, pointless, torture scenes, with a few recognizable words in the lyrics, I would rather watch Joaquin Phoenix rap.
“The song has all these references to Macbeth and all this Shakespeare and heavy theology, so we tried to make Manson’s Un Chien Andalou macabre Macbeth – that’s sort of what that became,” the actor explained.
Tell us what you think? Were you impressed by the Born Villain video? Could it be the music itself that has spoiled the success of LaBeouf’s try at directing another music video?
