For fans of the “Back to the Future” franchise, one of the most coveted items that never existed in real life were Marty McFly’s futuristic self-lacing shoes from “Back to the Future–Part II.” Well, now they can be coveted and on your feet.

Nike did file a patent for self-lacing shoes in 2009, and now, according to FilmJunk, it would appear that the shoes, being called “Air Mags,” have been launched during a special event in L.A. Thursday.

Wednesday, producer Frank Marshall announced on Twitter about the event in an effort to drum up buzz, tweeting “Something big is coming soon. Can’t say anything yet. No one should know too much about their own destiny.”

You can probably feel how high-priced these shoes are going to be, but I’m sure they will still be snatched up. With as many “BTTF” fans as there are in America, these shoes will be this century’s Air Jordans in terms of the craze it’ll spark.

You can view a teaser trailer of the shoes below.

What do you think about this news? Would you shell out tons of money for Air Mags? Would you risk wearing them outside? Give us your opinions in the comments section below.
