Reese Witherspoon suffered very minor injuries after being hit by a car in Santa Monica during a morning jog on September 7, MTV is reporting. The Academy Award-winning actress was struck at approximately 11 am at an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of 20th Street and Georgina Avenue.
The driver, an 84-year-old Santa Monica resident, reportedly didn’t see Witherspoon because of a large tree at the intersection. But the woman, who was driving 20 mph, remained at the scene after the accident, and was interviewed at the location. She was later cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Santa Monica Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis said Witherspoon “suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment.” She was discharged shortly after. She returned to her Brentwood-area home she shares with her husband Jim Toth, and her children, Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7, where she was recovering.
The accident comes shortly after Witherspoon became the face of the European fashion label Lindex. The brand’s marketing director picked her because she’s “positive, warm and full of energy.”
The accident also came after Witherspoon appeared on the cover of the October 2011 issue of Marie Claire. In the cover story, the actress said she was hard on herself after her divorce from Ryan Phillippe in 2006. She added that she didn’t realize how stressed she was about being a single parent until she got remarried in March.
