Actress Reese Witherspoon was seen attending a birthday party in L.A. after being hit by a car Wednesday.

The picture from PEOPLE shows Witherspoon holding presents, smiling amidst a black eye and bandage on her forehead. All-in-all she looks good and upbeat. Also, it’s good to see her out and about after what could have been a very serious accident.

Wednesday, Witherspoon was jogging in Santa Monica, CA when she was accidentally hit by an 84-year-old woman who didn’t yield in an unmarked crosswalk. Witherspoon has chosen not to press charges against the driver, but the driver was cited for not yielding to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. After the accident, her rep told the press that she was “resting comfortably at home” and that there were no serious injuries.

Again, to reiterate, how bad the accident could have turned out, it’s nice that this story has a happy ending. There’s enough saddening news in the world as it is, so it’s nice for there to be a good turnout.
