Title: ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest II

Directed by: Robert Hall

Starring: Brian Austin Green, Thomas Dekker, Mimi Michaels, Danielle Harris, Gail O’Grady and Johnathon Schaech

Running time: 93 minutes, Unrated, Available on standard DVD

The maniac in the metal mask is recovering from his mishap from the previous film, and his assistant Preston takes it upon himself to carry out ChromeSkull’s bidding by kidnapping another girl and placing her in a coffin until the boss is ready for her. However, Preston has developed a taste for killing and wants to show ChromeSkull he’s ready for a possible promotion.

Right off the bat you see the body of ChromeSkull with his bloodied lack-of-face, and within 5 minutes a girl gets naked and almost eviscerated. There is so much blood and let’s say “creative” murders in this film, that at one point I had to say out loud “C’mon is this necessary?” Brian Austin Green plays a great sadistic killer, maybe too good and I remember his 90210 work.

The DVD extras include a lengthy segment about the make-up and CGI effects, and I’ll agree the make-up effects were really well done. The extras also include the trailer, blooper reel, commentary with Director Robert Hall, Co-writer Kevin Bocarde and Brian Austin Green, and also a “Jump to a Kill” feature where you can skip straight to a death scene – a sort of horror movie pop-shot option.

I have never seen the original Laid to Rest, but as horror sequels go, it’s not bad… not great, but not bad. No person is indestructible unless something mystical is involved, and therefore I’m calling B.S. on the ending. If you like blood-splatter films, ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest II should be on your top 10 list.
