According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wanted writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt have been hired on to pen the script for the delayed second installment by Universal. The duo previously created the 2008 original that starred Angelina Jolie as a lethal assassin, with Morgan Freeman her superior and James McAvoy, the new and unwilling apprentice that gets caught up in a secret society.

This latest news comes off the heels of several attempts by Universal to hire a screen writer for the job. Soon after making close to 350 million at the box office, the studio looked to Chris Morgan to write Wanted 2. After that deal fell through Evan Spiliotopoulos was then hired, creating a good base for what Haas and Brandt will now edit and reposition into Wanted 2. According to The Wrap, Haas told the news outlet that the “Wanted sequel will pick up with Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) a few years after the original movie. He later tweeted that neither Fox (Jolie) or the Loom of Fate – ie. the mystical device that designates assassination targets – will directly figure into the plot of Wanted 2.”
