For any females who thought they had a chance with Zachary Quinto, you might want to sit down for this news. HollywoodLife has reported that Quinto said he’s gay in an interview with New York Magazine.
Quinto brought up his sexuality when speaking about the his role in the play “Angels in America” and the discrimination the play deals with.
“Doing that play made me realize how fortunate I am to have been born when I was born,” he said. “And to not have to witness the decimation of an entire generation of amazingly talented and otherwise vital men. And at the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like I–there’s still so much work to be done. There’s still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed.”
His interview comes on the back of a post he wrote on his blog about the death of Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old who, despite contributing to the “It Gets Better” movement, killed himself after being bullied.
“[W]hen i found out that [J]amey [R]odemeyer killed himself-[I]felt deeply troubled. but when [I] found out that [J]amey [R]odemeyer had made an ‘it gets better’ video only months before before taking his own life-[I] felt indescribable despair. [I] also made an ‘it gets better’ video last year-in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time. but in light of [J]amey’s death-it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it-is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality,” he wrote. “…[I] believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society-and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action. jamey rodemeyer’s life changed mine. and while his death only makes me wish that [I] had done this sooner-[I] am eternally grateful to him for being the catalyst for change within me. no [I] can only hope to serve as the same catalyst for even one other person in this world.”
What do you think? Give your opinions in the comments section below. On a serious note, I’m proud of Quinto to come out in this fashion and to want to use his life as a message to others that it does, in fact, get better. Suicide is NEVER the answer to a problem, so please don’t think of it as such, no matter how bad you think things are. On a lighter note, you can use the comments section to lament if you had fantasies of being Mrs. Quinto.
