Giuliana Rancic has revealed she was recently diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, and survivor Christina Applegate has offered her support, E! Online is reporting. The ‘Up All Night’ star told E! News that she has no intentions of letting the celebrity news host go through the recovery process on her own. “I know that journey so well, how that feels (to get) that phone call. I get what she’s going through,” Applegate said.
Rancic has announced that she will be taking some time off from ‘E! News’ to undergo a lumpectomy and radiation treatment. “I’ve been keeping this secret from a lot of dear friends for awhile now, and it’s nice to get it out there and not hide anymore,” she told co-anchor Ryan Seacrest.
The E! Host added that she started realizing she could be an example for women to not just be aware of breast cancer, but to act on it as well. “To make an appointment, to give themselves an exam. Because truly, Ryan, the bottom line is the earlier you find it, the better chance you have of survival,” Rancic also said.
Applegate was cleared of the cancer in August 2008 after undergoing treatment. She also elected to undergo a preventative double mastectomy. “I didn’t want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing,” she said of the procedure.
