I’m pretty sure everyone never thought they see the day then the beloved Barbie doll started wearing tattoos. Well, that day has come, and it’s not so bad. Actually, the tattoo-laden Barbie is quite fashionable.
According to The Huffington Post, Mattel and tokidoki have partnered together to create the new tokidoki Barbie. This stylish barbie is dressed to the nines in tokidoki merchandise and is sporting a short, sassy pink bob. The big thing causing controversy, however, are the tattoos decorating the doll’s neck, decollete and arm. And, as far as collector’s Barbies go, it’s very reasonably priced at $50.
According to tokidoki:
“tokidoki® Barbie® doll is always ready for cutting-edge fashion! This funky fashionista features trendy tattoos and a pink bob. With cactus friend, Bastardino, by her side, she’s ready for fun in fashion-forward form!”
I’m not sure what all the controversy’s about–it’s not as if Barbie is less of a role model because she has some tattoos. That’s like saying that everyone in the real world who sports a tattoo or multiple tattoos are bad influences, when, of course, that’s far from true. And tokidoki Barbie’s a collector’s item, anyway. If you don’t want your kid playing with her, either don’t buy her or put her in a curio cabinet.
