The fallout is still happening around the Kardashian family concerning the shockingly fast 72-day marriage and divorce of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. The family line is that the marriage wasn’t a sham and that it was what marriages are supposed to be–a celebration of love.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Kris Jenner, Kim’s mom, went on the “Today Show” Wednesday morning and spoke with Ann Curry about the marriage. She said the marriage “certainly wasn’t a sham, certainly wasn’t for TV.” She also said that the marriage wasn’t about making money by selling the television rights. She said that the money from selling wedding photos went towards paying the for the wedding. Jenner also said that she feels sad that people are reacting this way to Kim’s marriage.
Jenner also spoke with “Naughty But Nice” Rob for AOL/The Huffington Post. She said to Rob that cameras aren’t filming anything dealing with the divorce.
“We are not filming right now and didn’t do all this for the show,” she said. “At the moment, I’m 100 percent mom, not manager.”
She did say that she does understand the people’s vitriol. However, once again, she maintains that the wedding wasn’t a sham. She said that if it were a sham wedding, it would make better business sense to remain married and live separate lives than get divorced in 72 days. However, the fact that they got divorced after such a short marriage–that was televised and was very lucrative for E!– is exactly why people think it’s a sham in the first place.
Kim herself has released a statement about the marriage; she stated, “First and foremost, I married for love. I can’t even believe I even have to defend this.” She also said that she, a “hopeless romantic,” has the desire to fall in love and have children, and that her desire to have a family made her not think clearly. “I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn’t get off when I know I probably should have,” she wrote. “I accept full responsibility for my actions and decisions, and for taking everyone on this journey with me. It just didn’t turn out to be the fairy tale I had so badly hoped for.”
