Spike TV is gearing up for its ninth annual Video Game Awards, which will be live December 10, so they have released the news that Emmy Award-winning producer Mark Burnett has signed on to be the executive producer for the award show.

Burnett is behind a lot of the most popular shows on television, such as “The Apprentice,” the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the MTV Movie Awards, The People’s Choice Awards, “The Voice” and “Survivor.”

“We’re thrilled that Mark Burnett has signed on to lead the ‘VGAs,'” said Casey Patterson, executive producer of the VGAs and executive vice president of event production for Viacom Media Networks Entertainment Group. “Mark’s bold producing style is a perfect fit for gamers, and his tremendous vision and unparalleled energy will take the show to a new level.”

Burnett also added his excitement to work on the award show with Spike TV. “I have teenage boys so video games are already a part of my life,” he said. “They kick my butt in ‘Black Ops’ on a regular basis, but now are letting me win in hopes of seeing some of the world premieres before the show. We are going to have a lot of fun.”

The award show promises to have “epic” world premieres and info on some of the most anticipated games of next year and beyond, such as “Metal Gear Solid: Rising,” a new BioWare project, and the return of Alan Wake. Also, some of the first visuals and additional information on the world premieres can be found in the December issue of “Game Informer” magazine.

Again, Spike TV’s Video Game Awards will air live Saturday, December 10 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT in high definition. Nominees for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
