“Happy Feet Two” failed to gather the amount of love the first installment had. Even though the animation looks awesome, it would appear that the story suffered.

The critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a rotten 43%, whereas audiences gave it a lenient 67%. According to the synopsis of the critics’ reviews, the film was way too manic. “The animation is as eye-popping as ever, but ‘Happy Feet Two”s narrative is too noisily incoherent to recapture the Oscar-winning charm of its predecessor,” wrote the site. Let’s see what the critics wrote individually:

“…[W]hile ‘Happy Feet Two’ brings back the characters and obsessions of the first film, it doesn’t go anywhere new or seem to have any reason to be–other than to push some tickets and sell some plush toys. “–Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger

“‘Happy Feet’ was one of the greatest and most original animated films, but the sequel can’t even decide what it’s about for the first 40 minutes.”–Kyle Smith, New York Post

“The gotta-move protagonist of the first animated, Antarctica-set feature–a misfit young Emperor penguin named Mumble–returns for the sequel. Only this time he’s all grown up…and a lot less fun.”–Michael O’Sullivan, Washington Post
