Forever 21 Facing Scrutiny For Kurt Cobain Shirt Design

Forever 21 is the store that quite a few young people go to in order to get the latest trends. However, Forever 21 is being called out in deploying an iconic shirt design without giving credit.

According to MTV and Seattle Pi, the popular store has been given an earful by many after getting wind of the fact that the “Flipper” shirt design, drawn by Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain on a sweatshirt he wore during the band’s performance on a 1992 “Saturday Night Live” appearance, was being used by Forever 21 without credit.

The store has since taken down the shirt from the site, more than likely to avoid any legal trouble this shirt design could cause.

According to the sites, Forever 21 has never been the fashion critics’ favorite place due to their constant lifting of clothing designs, which include the designs of Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Sui and Gwen Stefani. They’ve also taken some hits from their “Navajo” items after the Navajo Nation came down hard on Urban Outfitters for selling their garments under the trademarked term “Navajo” and implying that the garments had any relation to the Navajo Nation (which is against the law, according to the Federal Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990), according to New York Magazine.
