If you’re a big fan of sci-fi, you might already be familiar with the concept of commercial flights to space. However, you’re probably only used to it in a fictional manner. Start getting used to it in reality as well.

According to The Huffington Post, SpaceX Dragon, a private company stationed in California, will launch their first commercial cargo flight to the International Space Station in February of next year.

On February 7, the company will launch an unmanned Dragon capsule, full of supplies, to the station. This shift in NASA’s focus on commercial businesses help with the station has occurred now that NASA’s space shuttles are retired.

SpaceX, or Space Exploration Technologies, Corp, has also made commercial history by being the first private company to launch a capsule into orbit and have it return safely to earth.

You can read more about this news at The Huffington Post. I wonder, since the void of supply vessels is being filled by companies outside of NASA, will this open the gateway to other commercial ventures, such as having name brands create space ships in order to market their wares to the Space Station and beyond? Like, what if there’s a Coca-Cola ship to compete with a Nabisco ship in the near future? Who knows, I guess.
