Ghost Rider Creator Gary Friedrich Legally Denied Film Rights

Friday, December 30th, 2011

A New York court has denied the creator of the Ghost Rider character, Gary Friedrich, the rights to the supernatural hero, Film School Rejects is reporting. The writer claimed he only signed away the comic book rights to the character to Marvel. However, he said the rights to any other places in which Ghost Rider appears, including the successful 2007 Nicolas Cage film of the same name and its upcoming sequel, ‘Angel of Vengeance,’ should revert back to him. Friedrich worked as a freelancer in the early 1970s for the House of Ideas. Part of his work included creating Ghost Rider, a motorcycle stuntman whose soul is taken by the…

Jamaica's Opposition Party Regains Control Over Country

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Former Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has regained control over the country after winning the election held on December 29, 2011, MSNBC is reporting. The country’s first female leader will be given a second chance after defeating current Prime Minister Andrew Holness. While he based his reelection campaign on the belief that an opposition win would turn foreign investors away and ruin hopes of economic progress, Holness said he wishes the new government well. Official results of the election have not yet been released, but the elections director, Orrette Fisher, said that Simpson Miller’s People’s National Party (PNP) was heading toward a victory over Holness’ Jamaica Labor Party. “Based…

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Prosecutors in Riverside, California have charged Jeremy London with domestic violence after he got into a fight with his estranged wife, Melissa Cunningham, on November 18, 2011, MSNBC is reporting. The Riverside District Attorney’s Office said the misdemeanor count was filed by prosecutors after Cunningham filed a police report against the actor. The report alleged London assaulted her outside her Palm Springs home after they got into an argument over custody of their child. After the report was filed, a warrant was issued for London’s arrest. If convicted of the charge, he could face up to a year in jail. The charges come after London and Cunningham were reportedly approached…

Casey Desmond

Interview: Electro Music Has A New Princess, Casey Desmond

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Casey Desmond is probably a name you have heard more than once this year, especially if you watched “The Voice”. The Boston native was a part of Adam Levine’s team, which also consisted of “The Voice” winner, Javier Colon. Unfortunately, the singer, songwriter and musician was sent home by Levine after she battled teammate, Jeff Jenkins, on Elton John’s “Don’t Let Sun Go Down On Me”. You only temporarily had to say goodbye to Desmond that night in May because in 2012, she will be releasing a new studio album. Yes, Desmond will frequently be associated with “The Voice”, but her 2012 album will also showcase her game-shifting sound abilities…

ShockYa's Top 10 Movie Posters of 2011

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Like all years of cinema, 2011 has seen its fair share of posters. However, a large portion of them are, let’s face it, lazy. The increased marketability of actors and actresses, as well as some misuses of Photoshop, have made what was once a grand medium into just bland advertisement. Just take a look at the regression of the “Harry Potter” posters. What once was a hand-drawn, composed piece is now just an actor or actress looking off-screen with a bluish-green light tinting them. Rocket science isn’t needed for that. However, 2011 has also seen some great posters that remind us what it is to look at an actual movie…

Friday, December 30th, 2011

With New Year’s Eve coming up, you can be sure that there are going to be a lot of people with a lot of hangovers. Hopefully no one ends up with a baby or a tiger, like the guys in “The Hangover.” However, whether you just end up with a bad headache or having Mike Tyson in your bathroom, you can bounce back with Hangover Joe’s Get Up & Go. This tie-in to the film “The Hangover” is a real product that helps battle the grogginess and confusion that happens when you party too much on New Year’s Eve. “Having New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day on a weekend,…

Prometheus Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron Opens Up On Her Role In Prometheus

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Ridley Scott’s film “Prometheus” has been talked about as one of the biggest movies of 2012, if not the biggest one of 2012, period. Mostly because it’s Scott’s return to the sci-fi genre he helped redefine with “Alien,” but also because of the stellar cast, which includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson and Charlize Theron. Not much has been made of what Theron’s role is (or anyone else’s roles, for that matter), but Perez Hilton managed to get the scoop on what Theron will be doing in the film. According to the site, Theron said in a recent interview that her character is the opposition in the…

Roadie Movie

Roadie Movie Review

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Title: Roadie Director: Michael Cuesta (‘L.I.E.’) Starring: Ron Eldard (‘Super 8′), Bobby Cannavale, Jill Hennessy and Lois Smith (‘True Blood’) Rarely does a screenwriter-director have the courage to create an authentic main character who longs for, and struggles to let go of, the past. But Michael Cuesta, who penned the new drama ‘Roadie’ with his brother Gerald, and served as the film’s director, created a believable protagonist in Jimmy Testagross, who’s afraid to admit his professional failures and be himself. ‘Roadie’ is the ultimate testament to people who want to do what makes them happy, but succumb to the pressure of pleasing their families and friends. ‘Roadie’ chronicles the immediate…
