I think I can speak for most people when I say that nobody was really thinking of a “Police Academy” remake. I was more than happy with the original film. And, to be honest, “Police Academy” is a product of its time–can it be successfully remade?

Anyway, the questions abound with the remake of “Police Academy” that is now full steam ahead. According to Slash Film, New Line Cinema has gotten Scott Zebielski to direct the film. As of right now, no word of the synopsis has been released, but one can assume that it’ll be the same as the ’80s film–a bunch of people who obviously don’t seem like police academy material sign up after the city realizes its short on police officers. But how will this remake take that synopsis? Will it go a realistically gritty route, or will it stay with the comedy? And even with the synopsis being comedic, is it going to be Judd Apatow-esque comedy or surrealist “Hangover”-style comedy? And who can replace Michael Winslow, who played Cadet Larvell Jones? I can’t think of any celebrity that can make random noises like he could. All in all, I don’t see any ingredients that add up to make this remake awesome.
