“Short Circuit” is a film that is an artifact of the 1980s. For people that grew up in the ’80s, the film is a childhood favorite, and Dimension Films is aiming at making it a classic for the kids growing up in the 21st century as well.

The original “Short Circuit” film was risque at times, and this remake aims at being less so. For Dimension Films, this remake is going to be the beginning of a new series of films. According to the press release, Bob Weinstein said he is looking forward to “Short Circuit” to be their “next family franchise.”

According to Slash Film, Dimension Films wants to remake the film for today’s child and family audiences. According to the article, “Doctor Dolittle: First Dog” writer Matt Lieberman to write the script to the remake. Lieberman seems to be the right guy to ask to write family-friendly and children’s films; according to the article, Lieberman is a graduate of the Disney screenwriting program and has written a family feature for Disney, “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.” Also, according to the article, Lieberman is also going to work with director Tim Hill on the film. Hill also has a good grasp on family-friendly films, having directed “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “Hop,” “Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties,” and has also written for “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Rocko’s Modern Life” (which had a lot of adult overtones), and other cartoons.

At the very least, hopefully the crew behind the film cast an actor of actual Indian descent to be Ben Jabituya.
