I’m sure when the news about a film reboot of “21 Jump Street” came out a few years ago, a lot of people were up in arms, not just about making the film based on a beloved show, but also because of the increasingly repeated (and often-times true) opinion of “Nobody asked for this film.”

Feelings of “21 Jump Street” simply being a movie grab could be valid if the film turned out to be less-than-stellar, but it would seem that the team behind the film, which includes Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, really wanted to show the love they have for the show and the respect they have for the audience who will view the film.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film has acquired a really stellar 86% rating from critics and audiences have given it an even higher 92%. According to the site, the critical consensus is:

“A smart, affectionate satire of ’80s nostalgia and teen movie tropes, ’21 Jump Street’ offers rowdy mainstream comedy with a surprisingly satisfying bite.”

It sadly seems rare nowadays to see a really good reboot of a property. Last year, we saw one of the best reboots in a while in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” It would seem that this year, “21 Jump Street” is starting off a good trend of 2012 reboots. Hopefully, “Dark Shadows” will keep the trend up. (From what I’ve seen from the trailer, dare I say that I think “Dark Shadows” will not only keep the torch lit, but will also see a rebirth in true Tim Burton zaniness instead of the watered-down Burton stuff we’ve seen in films like “Alice in Wonderland.”)
