Twitter can be a great place to see what celebrities really think about things. The latest celebrity to say how they really feel is Matthew Modine, who plays Deputy Commissioner Foley in “The Dark Knight Rises.”

According to Comic Book Movie, Modine has issued out some tweets that state, in so many words, that “The Dark Knight Rises” is going to put the gauntlet down on “Marvel’s The Avengers.” Such tweets include:

“It would take more than 6 #Marvel characters to take down 1 #DC character.”

“@salwidge: @MatthewModine said #TDKR is the best of the series, predicts it’ll kick #Avengers butt at the Box Office”

“@ArchangelCluez: batman would tear off ironman’s head and shit down his neck. well, actually B. Wayne wouldn’t, because he’s got real class.”

“@Vamp_Vixxen #DKR’s has annie hathaway. her get-up, piping-hot @ she’s got high kicks and a bad ass motorbike. what’s scarlett got?”

“@jasipuddles me too-not interested in avengers. #batman ala Nolan is dark and human. relatable. avengers is cartoon fantasy-nice kid flick.”

Sure, he can talk all of this smack because he is in “Rises,” but I think he’s also getting at the root of the “Avengers/Rises” argument. Some might think that the more adult tone in Nolan’s Batman universe makes “Rises” the better summer film this year, while some might crave the fun comic-book tone “Avengers” has. Personally, I’m probably more of a “Rises” person than “Avengers” person.(However,Mark Ruffalo/Bruce Banner has totally captured my heart. They need to make a “Hulk” movie with him ASAP.)

  1. Have to agree with Modine… The Avengers was fun at times but really not memorable at all. Not in the way The Dark Knight was.  Or even Iron Man.
