Mark-Paul Gosselaar is claiming that his words about his hit teen sitcom ‘Saved by the Bell’ were taken out of context in a recent controversial interview on Yahoo!, TMZ is reporting. In the Yahoo! interview, the ‘Franklin & Bash’ star was quoted as saying ‘Saved by the Bell’s “not a great show. The writing is kind of hokey…it’s very much a piece of that time.”
After the interview ignited an uproar on the Internet, Gosselaar told TMZ that he’s “proud of that show and have no problem talking about it.” While the actor added that he thinks the show’s writing was cheesy, “that’s why people like it! I wasn’t saying it was a bad show, just that the writing reflected ’80s cheesiness.”
Gosselaar added that he was upset his words were twisted. He added that “everything I’ve ever done after the show has pointed to me having nothing but respect for it.”
In response to Gosselaar’s denial, the writer of the Yahoo! interview, Dave Nemetz, told TMZ that he stands by his story 100 percent. He added that the quote is verbatim, and he has it on tape.
