The new poster and photos from the upcoming action sci-fi movie ‘Dredd,’ which was directed by Pete Travis, have been released by Lionsgate. The futuristic thriller, which is based on the John Wagner comic series, stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thrilby and Lena Headey.
Set in the American future, ‘Dredd’ takes place in an irradiated last land. On the East Coast lies Mega City One, a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with urban cops, called Judges, who have the powers of judge, jury and instant executioner.
Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd, played by Urban, is the ultimate Judge who’s charged with ridding the city of a dangerous drug epidemic. Users of the drug Slo-Mo experience reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
Dredd is assigned to train rookie Cassandra Anderson, played by Thirlby, who has powerful psychic abilities, due to a genetic mutation. After a heinous crime, they’re called into a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely go to. The 200-story slum is controlled by prostitute turned drug lord, Ma-Ma, played by Headey, and her ruthless clan.
Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center, and wages a vicious war against the Judges. She will stop at nothing to protect her empire. Dredd and Anderson must engage in a relentless battle for their survival as the body count climbs.
The neo-noir action film was penned by screenwriter Alex Garland and was filmed in 3D. ‘Dredd’ is set to hit theaters on September 21.
