Sony has released two new clips featuring Andrew Garfield as the title character from its upcoming superhero film ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ IndieWire is reporting. The first clip features Spider-Man getting into a minor verbal argument with Rhys Ifan’s Dr. Curt Connors about science. The second clip follows Super-Man as he’s on the run from the New York City police.

The clips come as Sony’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise has stiff competition at the box office, with the recent record-breaking success of ‘The Avengers’ and the upcoming anticipated final installment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Combined with the fact that ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ has been receiving luke-warm early buzz and the last film series based on the superhero ended five years ago, Sony has a tough sell with the movie.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ follows adolescent social outcast Peter Parker as he spends his time trying to discover the mystery of his past and winning the heart of his high school crush, Gwen Stacy. Peter finds a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, who abandoned him when he was a child. The briefcase leads Peter to his father’s former partner, Dr. Curtis Connors.

The discovery of his father’s secret will shape Peter’s destiny of becoming Spider-Man. it will also bring him face-to-face with Connors, who becomes the vengeful Lizard.

Check out the two clips from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ which hits theaters on July 3, below.
