Katie Holmes filed for divorce from her husband of six years, Tom Cruise, yesterday, CNN is reporting. The ‘Rock of Ages’ star’s lawyer, Bert Fields, confirmed the news. His publicist, Amanda Lundberg, is asking the public to respect “their privacy to work this out.”
Cruise “is very sad about it and is concentrating on the kids,” Fields said. Holmes’ attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, also commented on the pending divorced, calling it “a personal and private matter for (Katie) and her family.” He added that her “primary concern remains, as it has always been, her daughter’s best interest.”
The 49-year-old Cruise said he loved the 33-year-old Holmes as much as when they got married in the June edition of Playboy. “She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you’s see it,” he said. “I’m just happy, and I have been since the moment I met her.” He added that their relationship “is very special.”
The two began dating in 2005, when Cruise famously made headlines when he jumped on a couch during an appearance on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’ He said he couldn’t contain his excitement about Holmes. “She’s amazing, and I’d think the same of her even if she wasn’t with me,” he added.
