Comedian/actor Eddie Murphy, “The Last Resort” Executive Producer Shawn Ryan, and Sony Pictures Television are shopping around in the hopes of making a small-screen version of Paramount’s “Beverly Hills Cop,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pitch will be taken to broadcast networks in the coming week.

Murphy was the star of the three original films as a sly Detroit detective working in Beverly Hills. He is set to have an onscreen role in the television spinoff. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy and Ryan would executive produce the project, which is described as an hour long crime procedural with a touch of comedy. If given the green light, Murphy will appear in the pilot and a in few episodes throughout the first season.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in September, Murphy confirmed that there would not be a fourth movie in the franchise but that he was interested in telling a different story about his character. He said:

“What I’m trying to do with Beverly Hills Cop now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force this premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”

Keep your eyes peeled for more news on this exciting project!
