The finalists from the six American regions who have submitted new names for the malt-flavored soda in Mountain Dew’s “Regional DEW” program are in. Mountain Dew is allowing fans to add some local flavor to its first-ever malt flavored soda by choosing which finalist’s name they’d like to see hit stands in their region.

The malt-flavored Dew was originally released in select cities as ‘Johnson City Gold,’ named for Mountain Dew’s roots. The soft drink brand then asked fans to come up with regionally-inspired names for the second batch of the malt-flavored soda.

The design phase of the “Regional Dew” contest has now officially begun, and runs through October 10. Amateur and aspiring designers can submit regionally-inspired labels to the Malt Dew Web site for the malt-flavored Dew that will be sold in their region next year.

To enter the design phase for the “Regional Dew” contest, designers can choose from one of the finalist names for one of the six U.S. regions. Then they’ll use creative inspiration from their region to design a label and upload their design. Voting in the design phase will commence in early November, and fans will vote for the top three designs per region. The chosen winners will each be awarded a digital camera, and a chance to see their design on shelves in 2013.
