Wyclef Jean appeared on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ yesterday to discuss his upcoming memoir, ‘Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story,’ which is set to be released on Tuesday. The former Fugees frontman spoke about his affair with his old bandmate, Lauryn Hill, and how it affected his marriage, with the talk show host.
During the majority of ‘Purpose,’ which Jean co-wrote with journalist Anthony Bozza, the singer wrote about his time to the group that made him and Hill famous, and his affair with Hill. Jean told Williams that he didn’t tell Hill that he was including their affair in the memoir while he was writing it, because she knows their history.
Jean also said he wanted to document the truth about his relationship with Hill. When she released her solo debut album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,’ in 1998, the fans blamed him for breaking her heart. But he pointed out to Williams that Hill has had five children since their affair ended. So while Jean apologized to Hill in ‘Purpose,’ he just wants to move forward and not disrespect her.
Jean added that he went through a rough patch with his wife, Fusha designer Marie Claudinette, after his affair with Hill. But after finding out about it, she just gave him a look, warning him to never do it again.
Williams also asked Jean if the Fugees plan on getting back together, since Claudinette knows of his relationship with Hill. He said there aren’t any plans right now, as he doesn’t have any contact with Hill. Jean added that he’s busy producing at his new label, All Hands on Deck. His cousin, Pras, the other former Fugees member, is in a new group in Los Angeles.
Nelly Furtado also appeared on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ to promote her new album, ‘The Spirit Indestructible.’ The singer-songwriter debuted her new single, ‘Parking Lot,’ while on the show. Visit the show’s official website to enter to win a copy of the CD.
